A DeKalb County (AL) Sheriff's Department deputy and K-9 are both recovering after hitting a bull that was crossing a highway. The bull didn't survive, reports WTVC.

DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris says the incident happened at about midnight on Thursday.

Deputy Hunter Akins and K-9 Marianna were responding to a call in Fyffe and driving down Highway 75, when he suddenly crashed into the bull that was crossing the road.

The crash pinned Deputy Akins in his vehicle, but he was able to break out the driver-side window to get out.

Deputy Akins was taken to DeKalb Regional Hospital by DeKalb Ambulance Service where he was treated and released. K-9 Marianna is at the vet being checked out and is expected to be fine.
