An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper has succumbed to his injuries received during a July 14 pursuit and died, according to the agency.
OHP says Lieutenant Heath Meyer passed away late Monday night.
Lt. Meyer had been hospitalized in critical condition since he was hit by a car during the pursuit. Originally it was reported that he was struck by the suspect's vehicle. Subsequent reports from the OHP said he was accidentally struck by a patrol vehicle after the suspect caused a collision between two other state troopers’ vehicles.
The suspect, Dangelo Ladon Burgess, 28, was taken into custody. He faces charges of causing great bodily injury while unlicensed, eluding an officer while endangering others, failure to stop for roadblock, driving under suspension, following too closely, and failure to wear a seat belt. Officials said the pursuit initially started because Burgess allegedly was following too closely, KTUL TV reports.
Additional charges may be pending.

The Colorado State Patrol, after analyzing its 2025 struck-by incidents, identified one area for improvement: using traffic cones to provide advanced warning before the cruiser's location. Here is the agency’s final data.
