New York City's police and sergeant's benevolent associations are blasting a judge's decision to release a man who tried to take an officer's gun Sunday, saying it's putting police officers at risk.
Kurdel Emmanuel, 29, entered the precinct at Bushwick on Saturday morning and lunged at a female officer, trying to take her gun from her holster, police said.
The officer fought him off, and Kurdel was taken into custody, police told NBC New York.
Emmanuel was charged with robbery and assault, and when the district attorney requested a $250,000 bail, Judge Loren Baily-Schiffman released him on his own recognizance, said the Kings County District Attorney's Office.
Authorities on Sunday put out a police safety alert on social media with Emmanuel's photo after he was released from central booking.
