It’s “not intended to limit connectivity in the way the youth service officers communicate to cadet posts, which is largely through social media, but definitely limit one-on-one texting and those things, especially from folks that are outside the chain-of-command of the cadet posts,” Beck said.
LAPD has also made it “very, very clear” that the teenage cadets are not to drive department vehicles, Beck said. Those changes are being made immediately, he explained.
The announcements come after Officer Robert Cain, 31, from the 77th Street Division was arrested Thursday by Beck on suspicion of having sex with a teenage girl in the cadet program. The 15-year-old was one of seven cadets arrested in recent days on suspicion of stealing three police cruisers, a bulletproof vest, police radios and for posing as officers.
