A North Toledo teen faces up to 31½ years in prison for shooting and wounding a Fulton County, OH, sheriff's deputy last summer, reports the Toledo Blade.
Jeshua Gilmore, 18, pleaded guilty Monday to attempted aggravated murder and a firearm specification for shooting Deputy Jeremy Simon on July 31.
He also pleaded guilty to failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, having a weapon while under disability, and grand theft of a motor vehicle for the events that night, and to four counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle and one count each of theft and grand theft of a firearm for an unrelated case.
Gilmore reportedly shot Deputy Simon twice in the left side after leading the officer on a short pursuit from a truck stop, then fled on foot into a cornfield, stole a vehicle, and was arrested some 17 hours later by Toledo police at an apartment complex.
Deputy Simon was in court for the plea hearing. He said he recovered well enough to return to work Aug. 29.
A sentencing date was not set for Gilmore, who remains in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio on a $1 million bond.
