A suspect, who fired multiple rounds at a Meridian (MS) Police officer, was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire early Sunday morning, authorities report. The officer was shot twice in the chest and saved by his body armor. He sustained injuries to his leg and arm.
Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler said the incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. He described the suspect as a white male in his 30s, about five feet 10 inches tall, 185 pounds.
The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. He was treated and released at a local hospital.
The officer was responding to a be-on-the-lookout report of an armed suspect driving with a female passenger, the Meridian Star reports.
