Scotland County (NC) Sheriff’s Deputy Alexis “Thunder Eagle” Locklear was killed in a crash Thursday night off Old Wire Road, Sheriff Ralph Kersey has confirmed.

Locklear, 24, was killed while assisting another officer who was actively pursuing a suspect in a vehicle chase, Kersey said.

The deputy died in a single-vehicle accident, the Laurinburg Exchange reports.

Locklear became a full-time sworn deputy with the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office on May 16, 2017.
