A police officer was shot Wednesday night near a Waffle House restaurant in Jacksonville Beach, FL, according to WJXT-TV.
A man — later identified as 27-year-old Jovan Sisljagic — was reportedly walking on a sidewalk when he opened fire on a passing patrol car. The officer in that vehicle was not struck.
Other officers responded, chasing Sisljagic to an area near a Waffle House restaurant, where an exchange of gunfire occurred.
Jacksonville Beach police say that Officer William Eierman — a 16-year veteran — was shot twice, but is expected to make a full recovery and is in good spirits.
Sisljagic is now facing two counts of attempted murder.
