Goss was instrumental in stopping "a massive crane truck driving erratically" on the Long Island Expressway on Tuesday, according to Newsday.
When 47-year-old Brian Sinclair reportedly barreled through rush hour traffic — demolishing a Nissan Altima, a Jeep Cherokee, a Honda Civic, and a Toyota RAV4 — Gross got out of his patrol vehicle and jumped into the crane truck's cab.
“I don’t really think you need to use too much imagination to see the potential catastrophe that could have occurred had this crane not been stopped,” Cameron said during a news conference Wednesday at Suffolk police headquarters in Yaphank, “a 30-ton crane operated by someone who was impaired by alcohol on the Expressway during rush hour.”
Goss — a 12-year Suffolk Police veteran — said, “I was just doing my job… It seemed like the right thing to do at the time."
Two officers were shot in Gainesville, Florida, by a man who police say was leaving an area where he had killed a man inside a business. The suspect exited his vehicle in what the chief termed an “ambush-style” attack.
