No Charges for CA Reserve Officer Who Fired Gun in Class
When Alexander's gun fired into a ceiling, he did not commit a crime, prosecutors concluded.

The Monterey County, CA, District Attorney's Office announced Monday the outcome of its investigation into a former Seaside High School teacher and former Sand City reserve police officer who accidentally discharged his gun into a classroom ceiling while teaching a public safety class.
Dennis Alexander will be charged solely with an infraction offense for leaving a handgun in an unattended vehicle, reports KSBW.
When Alexander's gun fired into a ceiling -- injuring some Seaside High students with falling ceiling debris -- he did not commit a crime, prosecutors concluded. He also didn't violate any laws when he allowed students to handle his police service weapon and take selfies with it.
In the wake of the classroom gun incident, Alexander resigned from his positions as a teacher and a police officer. He still remains as the mayor pro tem of Seaside, and he recently swore in Seaside's new police chief.
