An officer with the Selma (AL) Police Department who was shot in an ambush attack over the weekend is reportedly in "good spirits" and hopes to quickly return to work, according to WSFA-TV.
Selma Mayor Darrio Melton identified the officer as Michael Hale.
Investigators believe Hale was followed by four suspects who fired shots at him with a "high powered rifle," according to reports.
Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said that one round penetrated the officer's body armor but that bullet apparently missed all vital organs.
