Man Tries to Choke California K-9 with its Own Leash

Officers with the Moreno Valley (CA) Police Department were attempting to arrest a man suspected of holding a woman hostage in his car when the subject tried to choke a K-9 with his own collar.

In video obtained by KABC-TV, the shirtless man can be seen violently resisting several officers attempting to take him into custody.

K-9 Herbie was deployed during the struggle.

The suspect—identified as 22-year-old Matthew Rubaclava—attempted to choke Herbie, who was later taken to a medical facility for evaluation.

Rubaclava was booked into Riverside County Jail on suspicion of false imprisonment, resisting arrest, domestic battery and attempting to injure a police service dog.
