Two officers with the Charlottesville (VA) Police Department who were responding to a call of shots fired were themselves struck by gunfire by the suspected gunman in the incident. Neither of the officers appears to have life-threatening injuries.
The suspect—identified as 27-year-old Timothy Miles—was also reportedly struck by gunfire in the exchange.
The officers identified the person they thought was responsible for firing the shots in the original call, and attempted to make contact with him, according to CBS News.
Shortly after officers arrived, Miles then reportedly opened fire, and officers returned fire.
Police said a bullet fired by MIles hit one of the officer's ballistic vest, and "possibly grazed the second officer," according to CBS News.
The officers were transported to a nearby hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition.
