A deadlocked jury has resulted in Army Staff Sergeant Ronald Hamilton—who was convicted of capital murder last month for killing his wife and a Prince William County (VA) police officer—likely spending the rest of his life in prison, rather than being given a death penalty.
Hamilton was convicted of shooting his wife in February 2016 after learning she planned to attend a male dance revue with her girlfriends, according to WTOP Radio.
Hamilton used an AK-47 when police kicked down the door of their Woodbridge home, killing rookie police officer Ashley Guindon.
Officer Guindon was on her first shift with the department.
Two other police officers were injured in the shooting.
The jury of 10 women and two men was unable to reach a unanimous decision on Hamilton's sentence, so—under Virginia law—the judge ordered life in prison for Hamilton.
