The Ellisville City Council on Wednesday approved creating a charitable police foundation to allow donations from local businesses and residents to fund some police department equipment and supplies.

The Ellisville City Council on Wednesday approved creating a charitable police foundation to allow donations from local businesses and residents to fund some police department equipment and supplies, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The foundation is meant to identify and procure items that may be used by the department to enhance safety and for other reasons and perhaps improve officers' jobs.

Lewis said that the foundation may provide items beyond what is budgeted.
