An officer with the Springfield (MA) Police Department was reportedly struck by a suspected drunk driver on Sunday night.
According to WWLP-TV, the officer was standing near the back of the ambulance at the time of the crash, while EMTs were helping a patient inside the ambulance.
The officer—who has not been identified—was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for unspecified injuries to his legs.
The driver—identified as 30-year-old Rena Gomez—now faces charges including DUI, speeding, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and obstructing an emergency vehicle.
