Off-Duty NYPD Officer Dies by Suicide

The officer's girlfriend—also a police officer—found 40-year-old Nicholas Mencaroni in his home and called 911. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An off-duty officer with the New York Police Department was found mortally wounded from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday.

The officer's girlfriend—also a police officer—found 40-year-old Nicholas Mencaroni in his home and called 911. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Daily News, Mencaroni joined the force in 2004.
