Texas Officer Goes to Trial for Fatal Shooting of Possibly Mentally Ill Man

Officer Mando Kenneth Gomez is facing one count of manslaughter in connection with the April 2015 shooting of Erik Emmanuel Salas Sanchez.

An officer with the El Paso Police Department will stand trial for manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a man with a possible mental illness.

According to El Paso Times, Officer Mando Kenneth Gomez is facing one count of manslaughter in connection with the April 2015 shooting of Erik Emmanuel Salas Sanchez.

Gomez—who was a 10-year veteran with the department at the time of the shooting—was indicted by a grand jury on the manslaughter charge in February 2017.

Gomez is still employed by the El Paso Police Department and is assigned to administrative duties at the police academy.
