The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Friday that field operations officers working at the port of Savannah, GA discovered a massive haul of cocaine secreted in a shipment of pineapples from Cartagena, Colombia last fall.
According to WSAV-TV, the discovery and seizure were made in November, 2018. The estimated street value was in excess of $19 million.
"This was an outstanding interception of narcotics by our CBP officers," said Lisa Beth Brown, Savannah CBP Area Port Director, in a statement. "This seizure is a positive enforcement action against drug smuggling organizations and highlights the important work our officers do each day to stop illegal activity at our borders and ports of entry."
