Ohio Officer Faces Federal Charges Over Alleged Sexual Assaults
According to WHIO-TV, the officer—identified as 55-year-old Andrew Mitchell—has been charged on three counts deprivation of rights under color of law, two counts witness tampering, one count of obstruction of justice and one count false statement to a US agency.
A veteran officer with the Columbus (OH) Police Department has been accused of detaining two different women in the guise of an arrest and demanding sex in order for them to regain their freedom.
According to WHIO-TV, the officer—identified as 55-year-old Andrew Mitchell—has been charged on three counts deprivation of rights under color of law, two counts witness tampering, one count of obstruction of justice and one count false statement to a US agency.
The officer—who had worked the vice detail—was relieved of duty in September after the FBI Public Corruption Task Force opened its investigation.
Mitchell plans to fight the charges and enter a not guilty plea, according to his attorney.
