The chief of police for the Bardwell (TX) Police Department and his volunteer firefighter son were killed in a near-head-on collision with a pickup truck on Sunday.
According to WFAA-TV, 67-year-old Michael Spurgeon and his 40-year-old son Michael Spurgeon Jr. were killed when the Ford Crown Victoria they were traveling in was hit by a Dodge pickup truck that veered into their lane and struck the Spurgeons' vehicle nearly head-on.
The pickup—driven by 31-year-old Jose Munoz—was also occupied by an 8-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. All three also died in the crash.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
