An officer with the Cahokia (IL) Police Department was recently faced with an excellent opportunity to serve one member of his community in a very special way.
According to Fox News, Officer Roger Gemoules pulled over a man—identified as 22-year-old Ka'Shawn Baldwin—whose license plates were expired. He soon discovered that Baldwin's driver's license was also no longer valid.
Baldwin explained that he took the risk of getting pulled over because he needed to get to a job interview and there was no other way to get there.
Gemoules saw the solution. He drove Baldwin to the FedEx facility for the interview, where Baldwin proceeded to nail the interview and get the job.
News articles about the interaction between Baldwin and Gemoules have appeared in Italy, Norway, Germany, Poland, England, China, and of course, the United States.
Francella Jackson—an assistant to the mayor of Cahokia—posted several images on Facebook, saying in part, "On behalf of Mayor Curtis McCall Jr., I would like to thank Officer Gemoules for showing compassion and being a great example of how community oriented policing actually works."
