An officer with the Leavenworth (KS) Police Department was recently presented with a Police Recognition Award from the city's police chief for her efforts to comfort children who were either victims of or witnesses to crime.

According to CNN, Officer Sarah Moreno has been giving kids who have suffered some form of trauma during the commission of a crime specially prepared care packages containing a stuffed animal and some other little mementos such as baseball cards.

Moreno says that the children who receive these small gifts might have been the victims of sexual assault or some other criminal activity.

In every care package Moreno also includes a business card, so that she can be reached by the family at a later time if the need arises.
