An off-duty Prince George's County, MD, police officer was killed on the Capital Beltway in a crash that threw him from his motorcycle and into traffic.

According to NBC News, the officer—24-year-old Davon McKenzie—was riding a Suzuki motorcycle in the fast lane when a Nissan careened into him after the chain-reaction collision began in the right lane.

Chief Hank Stawinski said, "The Prince George's County Police family is broken hearted at the loss of this young officer and only son. He was well respected and loved by his fellow officers. I, on behalf of all of us who were at the hospital and all those who couldn't be, extend our deepest condolences to his family."
