The Edgerton (WI) Police Department is asking its citizens to refrain from capturing and then relocating stray cats outside the city after receiving a complaint of someone doing just that.

The agency said on its Facebook page, "Good morning, Edgerton. We are aware there are several Facebook groups within the area discussing individuals who have been trapping/catching cats and relocating them outside of the city; this situation is being investigated. As pet owners, as well as neighbors to pets, the city does have ordinances regarding stray cats and cats at large that you should become better aware of and be in compliance of; Ordinances 29.06 and 29.07."
The post concluded, "Also, please note that going onto someone's property and removing an animal that doesn’t belong to you could be investigated as Trespassing and Theft."
