A North Carolina man now faces three felony charges after he reportedly attempted to drown a police officer by holding his head beneath the surface of a lake.
According to the Citizen Times, officers with the Asheville (NC) Police Department responded to reports of a man breaking into a vehicle.
When police arrived to the scene, the man—identified as 21-year-old Darrien Michael Carver—fled on foot and waded into an area lake.
Officers continued the pursuit, and a struggle ensued in which Carver is reported to have held one officer's head beneath the surface of the water for a period of time in an effort to drown him.
Carver has been charged with assault inflicting serious injury on law enforcement, assault on a government official, and resisting public officer. He was also charged with misdemeanor larceny.
