An officer with the Loveland (CO) Police Department was forced to shoot a "pit bull" that reportedly charged him during a response to a trespassing call over the weekend.

According to the Coloradan, the officer had responded to a business complex and came upon two individuals loading items into a truck when two dogs emerged from the vehicle and charged at him.

One of the dogs stopped, but the other continued to advance, forcing the officer to fire two shots, striking the animal in the head and hip.

Other responding officers used their department-issued trauma kits to conduct aid on the animal, which was then transported to a nearby veterinary hospital.

The condition of the dog is presently unknown.
