Video: GA Officers Plead with Knife-Wielding Man for Minutes Before Fatal Shooting

The video shows the man charged one of the officers and attacked him before the fatal shooting. One officer was injured in the attack.

Athens-Clarke County, GA, police officers pleaded with a knife-wielding man and retreated in an attempt to de-escalate before fatally shooting him Monday, according to body camera video released Tuesday.

The video shows the man charged one of the officers and attacked him before the fatal shooting. One officer was injured in the attack.

Athens-Clarke County police said they received multiple calls about a man dripping blood and acting erratically Monday afternoon, WSB reports.

"I want people to be able to see exactly what the officers were confronting and make their own decisions about how they feel about what occurred," Athens police Chief Cleveland Spruill said.

Police said three officers responded to the scene. Two of the officers fired shots at the man when he wouldn't put the knife down and ran toward them, according to police.
