Deputies with the Sonoma County (CA) Sheriff’s Office were joined by a CHP officer in response to a call of a man's violent attack at a home in the coastal town of Bodega Bay.

The agency said in a statement that the suspect—identified as 32-year-old Betai Koffi—was with friends at a rental home for the Independence Day holiday when he punched a woman in the chest and side, then stabbed a man with a pencil, and choked another man, and punched another man in the face.

He then left the home, attempting to flee in his rental vehicle, but was boxed in by other parked cars. He then fled on foot and came upon a security guard, whom he stabbed with the metal stake of a landscape light.

He then stole the security guard's vehicle and fled the scene, striking a pair of pedestrians, badly injuring a woman and leaving a man with a minor injury.

Koffi then rammed the vehicles of the responding CHP officer and sheriff's deputy.

The deputy opened fire, striking the subject at least three times.

Koffi now faces two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and one charge of carjacking.
