Officers were forced to fatally shoot a gunman who was reportedly throwing incendiary devices at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention Center and then at vehicles in the parking lot.
The agency said in a statement posted to Facebook that a vehicle was set on fire and that the man attempted to ignite a large propane tank and set outbuildings on fire.
"Officers arrived on the scene and located the subject. Officers called out shots were fired," the agency said in a statement. "Officers noted that in addition to the weapon, he was wearing a satchel and had flares on his person. The incident evolved into an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old male identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Willem Van Spronsen. The rifle he was carrying was recovered at the scene."
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
