The Richmond Heights (OH) Police Department—which has been without a K-9 since 2013—has launched a fundraising campaign aimed at garnering the requisite $60,000 necessary to acquire, train, and keep a new dog.
According to ABC News, the agency aims to use the dog for drug searches, search and rescue operations, as well as community policing events.
So far, residents and businesses have donated about $4,000.
Donations have come in from as far away as South Carolina.
