The Topeka Police Department recently put a summertime twist on their ongoing "coffee with a cop" events by shifting the location to an area Dairy Queen ice cream parlor.
According to WIBW-TV, officers and leaders at the agency brainstormed ways to continue the community engagement events despite the summer heat and decided that coffee could very nicely be replaced with the frosty treats.
Major Darin Scott told the television station, "During the summer on the hot days, we got into brainstorm and said, ‘Let’s do ice cream cones with a cop. It's a chance for people to get and mingle with police officers and see us on a level that they can talk and interact and build those partnerships that we need."
There have also been discussions at the agency of hosting a "pancakes with police" event at some point in the future.
