An Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 that was exposed to illegal narcotics—identified by a hazmat team as synthetic marijuana—late last week has died.
According to the Montgomery Advisor, K-9 Jake collapsed during a contraband search inside Staton Correctional Facility Thursday.
Medical staff at the facility performed CPR before K-9 Jake was transported to a nearby veterinary clinic where he was treated for pneumonia.
Initially, it was thought that K-9 Jake would recover, but the agency announced this week that the dog has passed away.
