Rhode Island Teen Arrested for Shooting Officer in Ballistic Vest

An officer with the Providence (RI) Police Department was struck in the ballistic vest when a gunman opened fire on him on Friday afternoon.

An officer with the Providence (RI) Police Department was struck in the ballistic vest when a gunman opened fire on him on Friday afternoon.

According to NBC News, the assailant—identified as 19-year-oldTyrone Robinson—shot Officer Matt McGloin, a 10-year officer who's on the Violent Crime Task Force.

Colonel Hugh Clements said McGloin suffered an impact wound, but will be OK.

"Thank God he had his bullet proof vest on; the bullet struck in the best area," Clements said.
