Richard Ross—the commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department—has resigned amid allegations of sexual harassment and racial and gender discrimination against others in the department.
According to CBS News, Mayor Jim Kenney said in a news release that he's disappointed to lose Ross, but Ross' "resignation is in the best interest of the department."
Ross joined the department in 1989 and has served as the agency's commissioner since 2016.
Kenney named Deputy Commissioner Christine Coulter to serve as acting commissioner during a search for Ross' replacement.
