Off-Duty Missouri Officer Responds to Fatal Shooting Scene

Three people were shot—one fatally—during a disturbance in Kansas City, MO, on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Kansas City Star, the off-duty officer was working security at a private establishment when a citizen approached and said that someone was shooting nearby.

The officer went to the scene and saw an armed man shooting at two people. According to Capt. Tim Hernandez, a spokesman for the Kansas City (MO) Police Department, the officer discharged his weapon, shooting the gunman in the leg. The injured suspect was taken into custody.

Two men who had been shot were found nearby, police said. Investigators said they are thought to have been shot by the armed suspect.

One, a 29-year-old man, was dead. The other, a 51-year-old man, had injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening, police said.
