A deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office who was struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning suffered broken bones but is expected to recover.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the deputy is presently in intensive care and will require a number of surgeries to address broken bones, but will fully recover in time.
The deputy was one of two who responded to a call of a suspicious person. They did not find the individual, but came upon a piece of debris in the roadway and cleared it.
While returning to their patrol vehicles, one of the deputies was struck by a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Tashikia White, who immediately stopped and voluntarily provided a blood sample for troopers to test.
"Investigating troopers noticed no signs of impairment," the agency said in a statement.
