An officer with the Coventry (RI) Police Department rescued a 96-year-old woman from a building fire in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

According to the Providence Journal, two other residents of the building—a 26-year-old woman and her 7-year-old son—were able to escape the fire on their own but the elderly victim remained inside when Officer Justin Favreau arrived at the scene.

Coventry Police Chief John MacDonald said that the department's patrol officers "do great work in Coventry every night and it mostly goes unseen by residents. Here is a shining example of a young officer working midnights who was right on the spot to make a lifesaving rescue."
