Virginia Department Reinstates Officer Suspended for Assisting ICE

Following widespread public outcry, the chief of the Fairfax County (VA) Police Department reinstated an officer who he had suspended for detaining an undocumented immigrant so that an official from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement could come and take him into custody.

Following widespread public outcry, the chief of the Fairfax County (VA) Police Department reinstated an officer who he had suspended because the officer had detained an undocumented immigrant so that an official from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement could come and take him into custody.

According to the Washington Times, Chief Edwin Roessler said an investigation is still ongoing but he ended the officer’s suspension after a "procedural policy recommendation" as of Friday.

One day after Chief Roessler said, "Our county is one of the most diverse counties in the nation and no one should have the perception that FCPD is acting as a civil immigration agent for ICE," he issued a statement saying, "We have one of the best police forces in the U.S. and I have confidence that our officer will represent us well throughout his career."
