An officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department is being praised for going above and beyond the call of duty when he helped a homeless family find shelter and then return to Michigan.

According to CBS News, Officer Jose DeLeon saw a man, a woman, and four children at a bus station looking distressed. He approached them and learned in conversation that they had nowhere to sleep, nothing to eat, and dire prospects of finding their way home to Michigan.

DeLeon enlisted the help of a number of fellow officers who contributed out of their own pockets to get the family airline tickets home. They also delivered the group to a local homeless center where they were given temporary shelter.
