Texas Officer Shot at Traffic Stop, in Critical Condition

An officer with the Denton (TX) Police Department is listed in critical condition and had to undergo surgery after he was shot at a traffic stop.

An officer with the Denton (TX) Police Department was listed in critical condition after he was shot at a traffic stop for an equipment violation, according to Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon.

According to ABC News, the department said the officer—whose name has not yet been released—was struck in an exchange of gunfire that involved backup officers early Tuesday morning.

Chief Dixon said on Twitter, "Our officer is continuing to fight." He also thanked the medical staff, responding officers, dispatchers, and firefighters who helped get the officer needed medical care. He said the officer was undergoing surgery.

Two suspects fled but have were taken into custody following the incident and were taken to hospitals to be treated for gunshot wounds, according to the chief.
