An off-duty officer with the Ontario (CA) Police Department died in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday in San Bernardino.
According to the San Bernardino Sun, the officer—40-year-old Joshua Ray Burks—reportedly lost control of his SUV, left the roadway and struck a tree in the median.
Burks was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Burks’ career in law enforcement began in 1997, when he became a police cadet. About two years later, he was hired as a police recruit and rose through the Ontario Police Department’s ranks, according to the department.
