Four civilians rushed to the aid of an officer with the Sylacauga (AL) Police Department who was trapped inside a burning patrol vehicle late last week.
According to AL.com, Officer Blake McGee was behind the wheel of a department SUV when it collided with a logging truck and burst into flames.
Four people nearby—including Talladega County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Rogers—ran to the burning car and pulled McGee out through the driver's side window.
McGee was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious. He is presently listed in stable condition.
Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson said, "Thoughts and prayers are appreciated for Blake and his family as he faces a difficult recovery ahead."
