Alabama Officer in Critical Condition Following Shooting

An officer with the Ozark (AL) Police Department is in critical condition and a suspected gunman is dead following an incident on Thursday night that ended in gunfire.

According to AL.com , officers were responding to a call of a man with a gun when they saw a white male subject holding a firearm.

When one of the officers got out of his vehicle to make contact, the alleged gunman immediately opened fire, striking the officer, officials say.

The wounded officer and other officers on the scene returned fire, fatally wounding the subject.

The wounded officer was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The officer's name has not been released.
