North Carolina Sergeant Wounded in Deadly Shooting at City Sanitation Department
The shooter reportedly fired at police, and the officer was shot twice. He was reportedly hit in the leg and abdomen. Police returned fire and killed the shooter.
A Winston-Salem, NC, police sergeant was wounded Friday responding to a shooting at the city's sanitation department that killed two people.
Police received reports of gunfire before 7 a.m. and went to the sanitation department office to see a shooter on the western side of the building, sources told the Greensboro News & Record.
The shooter reportedly fired at police, and the officer—identified by My Fox 8 as Sgt. Stewart Sloan—was shot twice. He was reportedly hit in the leg and abdomen. Police returned fire and killed the shooter.
Police then went into the building and found an employee dead inside and another wounded, sources said. The injured city employee is undergoing treatment in intensive care but is expected to survive.
Both Sgt. Sloan and the wounded sanitation worker are expected to recover. Their wounds have been described as "serious but not life threatening," according to WFMY.
