An officer with the Miami Beach Police Department is recovering and the man who stabbed him was shot and critically wounded by other responding officers following a confrontation over the weekend.
According to the Miami Herald, officials say the officer was responding to a call for service at the Clevelander Hotel in South Beach when the knife-wielding man stabbed him several times.
Both the officer and the alleged assailant were transported to a nearby hospital, where they each underwent surgery. The officer is said to be in good spirits.
Police have not released the names of either individual.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, per Miami Beach Police policy.
