An officer with the Round Rock (TX) Police Department is now the proud owner of a three-year-old bull terrier that had suffered extensive injuries when it fell from the bed of a pickup truck and was dragged along the roadway for up to a mile before breaking free of its tether.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Officer John Schultz officially adopted "Champ" during a ceremony overseen by Justice of the Peace Evelyn McLean on Tuesday.
Schultz—who has fostered Champ since October while the dog underwent as many as six surgeries, paid for with $10,000 in monies raised by Shultz—already has six other dogs living on his more than 100 acres of land.
The agency said on Facebook, "The medical procedures are done but it'll be a while before he's fully healed. Never underestimate the heart of a Champion!"
