An 83-year-old man who went missing was located by an 8-year-old boy who heeded the call from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for help in finding the at-risk man.
The Lakewood Sheriff's Station said on its Facebook page that Jackson Opdyke, who was part of the search party, was among many concerned citizens who aided in the search conducted by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department Mental Evaluation Team.
During a ceremony on Wednesday, Captain David Sprengal, Mayor Todd Rogers, and Vice Mayor Jeff Wood presented gifts of appreciation to the boy.
