According to NBC News, the suspected gunman—identified by officials as 37-year-old Preston Johnson—was arrested in October 2019 after officers reported finding him with a stolen car, loaded AR-15, several knives, meth, needles and other drug paraphernalia.
He faced a string of charges, but weeks after his arrest he was released from jail on a $40,000 secured bond and $15,000 unsecured bond, despite the fact that prosecutors had asked for substantially higher bond.
