Man Accused of Murdering Alabama Officer Has Lengthy Criminal History
The man accused of killing Officer Nick O'Rear of the Kimberly (AL) Police Department has spent most of his adult life in jail or on probation, and had been just weeks from going to trial for charges he faced related to a recent arrest.
The man accused of killing Officer Nick O'Rear of the Kimberly (AL) Police Department has spent most of his adult life in jail or on probation, and had been just weeks from going to trial for charges he faced related to a recent arrest.
According to NBC News, the suspected gunman—identified by officials as 37-year-old Preston Johnson—was arrested in October 2019 after officers reported finding him with a stolen car, loaded AR-15, several knives, meth, needles and other drug paraphernalia.
He faced a string of charges, but weeks after his arrest he was released from jail on a $40,000 secured bond and $15,000 unsecured bond, despite the fact that prosecutors had asked for substantially higher bond.
