Officers with the Lafayette (IN) Police Department will now be able to grow facial hair and reveal tattoos while on duty following a change in the agency's policy on appearance.

According to WLFI-TV, Lafayette Police Chief Patrick Flannelly said that the change comes in an effort to open up the departments recruiting pool.

Facial hair must be groomed, and cannot interfere with an officer's duties.

Further details on the change in tattoo policy were not immediately released.
